Description of the excursions for cruisers
City Tour San Pietroburgo
This scenic tour of the city gives you the possibility to admire the following interesting sights: Nevsky Prospect, Ostrovsky Square and Catherine II Monument, Senate Square where the equestrian Monument to Peter the Great “The Bronze Horseman” soars, Saint Isaac’s Cathedral , Alexandrinsky Theatre, Kazan Cathedral (dedicated to Our Lady of Kazan), Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, Arts Square, Admiralty Building, Field of Mars, Summer Garden.
Saint Peter and Paul Fortress
Visit to Saint Peter and Paul Fortress and entry in the famous baroque Cathedral designed by Domenico Trezzini: here are buried Romanov Tsars and Tsarinas. The works for the construction of Peter and Paul Fortress began on May 27, 1703 at Peter the Great’s command, in order to defend the areas adjacent to the Neva River during the Great Northern War, however it was never used for this purpose. The Fortress was designed on an irregular octagonal mould, with bastions on the corners. The works to this baroque architecture masterpiece were completed at the end of 1733. In addition to the Cathedral, the Fortress contains the Chocolate Factory, the Trubetskoy bastion (used as a prison), the Grand Ducal Mausoleum, the State Museum of Saint Petersburg History and the Saint Petersburg Mint as well.
Hermitage
3 hours long visit of one of the most prestigious and famous museums in the world. The Hermitage, completed in 1762, was designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli at Catherine the Great’s command in order to collect Western paintings in the imperial residence. For more than two centuries the collection had been broadening and nowadays, all things considered, one can assert that it is the widest one in the world: it counts more than 3 million artworks. The Museum preserves interesting rooms dedicated to Egyptian, Roman and Grecian antiques.
Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood
The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood (Russian: Tserkov’ Spasa na Krovi) was built between 1883 and 1907 during Alexander II’s reign on the right bank of Griboedov Canal and next to Michailovsky Garden of the Russian Museum, not far from Nevsky Prospect. The official Russian name is “Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ” and was erected where the Tsar Alexander II was murdered during the assassination of the 13th March 1881. The style belongs to medieval Russian architecture (like the Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow), the Church is decorated with more than 7000 square metres of mosaics, the widest surface in the world.
Pushkin House (Tsarskoye Selo)
Visit of Catherine the Great’s Palace, where the world-famous Amber Room is preserved, and walk in the magnificent Palace Park. Catherine’s Palace, in rococo, was the summer residence of Russian Tsars in the town of Tsarskoye Selo, where Alexander Pushkin spent his youth. The typical architecture of the buildings, the landscapes and the parks represented Pushkin’s source of inspiration for his poems. In 1717 the Palace underwent some modifications and in 1756, at Elizabeth’s command, Catherine’s daughter, the court architect Rastrelli executed the latest refinement.
